Overview

The Amsterdam Merit Scholarship is the University of Amsterdam’s award for outstanding non-EU/EEA students starting a master’s there. It is run per faculty, with very few awards: the Graduate School of Psychology, for example, awards it to one student for the master’s tracks and one for the Research Master, and Amsterdam Law School awards a single scholarship a year for four named LLM programmes.

Eligibility

You need a non-EU/EEA passport, a first-time application to a UvA master’s programme and a plan to enrol full-time. Selection leans heavily on earlier academic results. Deadlines and amounts differ by faculty: as of October 2026 Amsterdam Law School states 15 January at 23:59 CET each year, and says the amount for 2027–2028 is still to be announced. UvA also lists separate faculty scholarships for Economics and Business, Humanities, Law, Science, and Social and Behavioural Sciences.
